Developmental Pathways is adding to their Early Intervention Department and is seeking a Billing Specialist who will be responsible for all aspects of the complex billing claims for our Early Intervention program, including claim submittal and resolving denied or unpaid claims.

This position will be located at our Inverness office in Englewood, CO. We’re committed to a great work-life balance here, so our offices are open Monday – Thursday and are closed on Fridays. This is a full-time 36-hour/week position working Mondays – Thursdays.

  • Obtain service provision data from staff and contract providers, review data for accuracy (to include review of ICD-10 codes, CPT-4 codes, individuals on service information), and consistency (with treatment notes and other data requirements), in accordance with applicable rules, regulations and coding guidelines, within the monthly billing cycle.

  • Collate data in a master spreadsheet utilized for data-entry into the State of Colorado billing portal for non-private insurance billing or Medisoft for private insurance carrier billing.

  • Perform data-entry in Medisoft: submit claims to appropriate payers in accordance with payer guidelines utilizing the Medisoft billing program and/or other Web-based portals.

  • Post payments, as received from payers, to individuals in services’ accounts in the Medisoft program.

  • On a monthly basis, analyze account balances and financial information and report on the details for unpaid or denied claims.

  • Perform account maintenance in Medisoft, including insurance updates and rebilling of claims to ensure timelines for internal controls are met.

  • Consistently pursue and follow-up on outstanding claims, to meet standards for collecting payments within specified time frames.

  • Keep records on outstanding claims, contacts made, and results; determine when additional resources are required to resolve outstanding balances.

  • Contact families and other agency staff for additional insurance or benefit information.

  • Respond to requests from insurance companies, as needed in the payment resolution process.

  • Maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPPA requirements.

  • Obtain referrals and authorizations as needed, including evaluations and prescriptions.

  • Verify and obtain authorizations for services as detailed in the IFSP and as required by insurance companies, dependent on the private plan coverage, for all EI consumers. Knowledge of Tricare, Medicaid and obtaining prior authorizations is helpful.

Must have’s to be our Early Intervention Billing Specialist

  • Two (2) years of experience in medical/dental billing, using web-based database systems, required.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in medical/dental billing, utilizing Medisoft billing software; working knowledge of Colorado Medicaid, Tricare, and other private insurance programs, preferred.

  • One (1) to five (5) years of relevant medical billing/coding/collection experience - experience with Third Party collections, required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) to four (4) years medical/dental billing experience; OR an Associate’s degree plus five (5) years of experience in medical/dental billing (experience must be specifically documented and verifiable on your resume.), preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to effectively communicate with managers, peers, person’s in services, families and others.

  • Ability to provide good customer service at all times, including in stressful situations.

  • Ability to perform computer functions necessary to carry out job responsibilities.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.

  • High degree of accuracy with time-sensitive, detailed information to ensure successful submission of data within established State and/or agency timelines, in order to maintain stable cash flows.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make effective decisions.

  • Ability to interpret and apply state and federal regulatory guidelines.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.
